Toothache never picks a convenient day. If it strikes in the middle of your trip to Nha Trang, here is what to do, in order — from your hotel room to the dentist's chair.
1. What to do straight away
- Rinse with warm salt water and gently floss around the painful tooth to remove trapped food.
- Hold a cold pack against the outside of your cheek for 10–15 minutes at a time if there is swelling.
- Take an ordinary painkiller exactly as directed on the packet, if you have no reason not to.
- Avoid chewing on that side, and avoid very hot, very cold and sweet food.
- Sleep with your head raised — lying flat usually makes the pain worse.
2. What not to do
- Do not apply heat to the swelling.
- Do not place a painkiller tablet on the gum — it can burn the tissue.
- Do not take leftover antibiotics on your own.
- Do not wait until you get home if the pain lasts more than a day or two.
3. When is it an emergency?
Go to the nearest hospital, without waiting for a dental appointment, if you have:
- Swelling spreading to the face, neck or around the eye.
- Fever together with swelling and pain.
- Difficulty swallowing, breathing or opening your mouth.
- Bleeding that will not stop after an injury.

4. What happens at HiDentist

Depending on the cause, treatment is usually:
- A filling if decay has not reached the nerve — 100,000 – 500,000 ₫ per tooth.
- Root canal treatment if the nerve is inflamed — from 1,000,000 ₫ per tooth.
- Extraction if the tooth cannot be saved — 100,000 – 1,000,000 ₫ per tooth.

5. Paperwork and insurance
- The clinic issues an invoice for all treatment.
- We help prepare a treatment record in your language for your insurer or your dentist at home.
- X-rays for diagnosis are free; if you want a copy to take away, the fee is 150,000 ₫ (panoramic) or 450,000 ₫ (cone-beam CT).
Every insurer has different conditions. Read your policy or call your insurer's assistance line before treatment to find out which documents they need.
