Tooth Extraction
Teeth can become damaged, weakened and loose for many reasons. Whether a tooth needs to be removed depends on the condition of your mouth and your general health. Dentists always try to treat and save a tooth first — extraction is only recommended when no other treatment is possible or effective.
What is a tooth extraction? It is a minor surgical procedure to remove a tooth that can no longer function because of disease or damage. It involves local anaesthesia, the extraction itself and a healing period during which some discomfort is possible, so it is important to be prepared.
After an extraction, it is best to replace the missing tooth — for example with a dental implant — to preserve chewing function and appearance and to prevent the consequences of tooth loss.
